New 2008 CPT Code Information

The CPT 2008 code book is now out and contains some clarifying language regarding when 96101 (psychological testing by a psychologist, with interpretation and report) and 96118 (neuropsychological testing by a psychologist, with interpretation and report) should be used.  The additional language clearly states that the professional code (96101/96118) can also be billed for time spent integrating other sources of clinical data, including previously interpreted results and information from tests that were administered by a technician or computer.  It is important to note that these clarifications do not change the way that the codes are intended to be used.

The book also makes it clear that the time that a psychologist spends interpreting and reporting on each individual test administered by a technician or computer is still paid for under the relevant technician- or computer-administration codes (96102/96119, and/or 96103/96120).
