Mission: The primary mission of the Public Interest Advisory Committee (PIAC) is to increase public awareness of Division 40 and the practice of clinical neuropsychology. Through the work of this committee, we hope that the public sector will become more informed about neuropsychology, and reciprocal communication will be enhanced.
Activities: In 2002, the PIAC announced the publication of two brochures, “Clinical Neuropsychology” and “Pediatric Neuropsychology.” These brochures were designed for consumers, are easy to read, and provide a general introduction to clinical neuropsychology. They are intended for use in patient education, communication with referral sources, and whenever there is an opportunity to increase public awareness of neuropsychology The brochures can be accessed and downloaded by going to the Brochures Page or printed copies are available through APA Division Services. They are currently being translated into other languages and should be available soon.
The Ethics Committee (EC) has recently compiled a list of references on Ethics in Neuropsychology. PIAC also has two very active mentoring programs: the Ethnic Minority Affairs (EMA) Committee, and the Women in Neuropsychology (WIN) Committee. Please follow these links for additional information about each committee’s upcoming events.
Finally, PIAC organizes the efforts of Division 40 liaisons, monitors, and committee chairs and PIAC members work closely with APA committees and boards to enhance communication and coordination of efforts between Division 40 and APA as a whole.
