Nominations for Division 40 Fellows Sought TOP

As stated by APA, becoming an APA Fellow recognizes evidence of unusual and outstanding contribution or performance in the field of psychology and is an honor valued by the APA membership. We in Division 40 view Fellowship as an honor for the individual as well as for the Division, and we welcome nomination of outstanding members for this distinction.

In nominating a Division 40 member for Fellowship, you are required to complete and submit a "Uniform Fellow Blank" along with supporting material (e.g., a current vita, listing of the nominee's publications and indicating "R" for refereed). A minimum of three (3) endorsement blanks written within the calendar year of nomination should be completed by individuals who are current APA Fellows. Nomination of an existing Fellow is also encouraged. If the nominee is being supported by another Division, supporting documentation from the Division should also be submitted, clearly indicating the name of that Division and contact person. Optional, but recommended material, includes a nominee's self-statement setting forth the accomplishments that warrant nomination to Fellow status. Division 40 strongly encourages women and minority members to consider applying for fellowship.

All nomination materials should be completed and submitted to the Division's Fellowship Committee (not APA Central Office) by December 15, 2003. This will allow for time for the Division Committee to review all materials, make its decision, and forward its nominations to the APA Membership Committee for its February 15 deadline. Successful nominations are announced in August following the APA annual meeting. Nomination materials can be obtained from: Eileen Fennell, Ph.D., Division 40 Fellowship, Dept. of Clinical and Health Psychology, Box 100165, Health Sciences Center, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL 32602; TEL: (352) 395-0680 ext. 5-4580 (office); FAX: (352) 395-0468; E-mail: efennell@hp.ufl.edu

AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATION
Henry Hécaen and Manfred Meier Neuropsychology Scholarships

The American Psychological Foundation in conjunction with the Division of Clinical Neuropsychology of the American Psychological Association (Division 40) is pleased to announce, and seeks applications for, the Henry Hécaen and Manfred Meier Neuropsychology scholarships. Both scholarships consist of one-year grants of $2,500, which are made annually. The scholarships seek to identify two graduate students who show great promise or achievement in their graduate studies, as signified by scholarly and/or research activity.
Both scholarships are made possible through major gifts from Arthur Benton, Ph.D., who wished to honor two esteemed colleagues in neuropsychology. The late Henry Hécaen was a French neurologist, instrumental in the founding and development of neuropsychology as a science. Manfred Meier, Ph.D., retired from the University of Minnesota, helped establish the Neuropsychology Laboratory, where he conducted neuropsychological research on patients with epilepsy, cerebrovascular disorders, and Parkinson's Disease. He has held appointments as professor in the departments of neurosurgery and psychiatry and an adjunct appointment in the department of psychology at the University of Minnesota.
Students who desire to compete for this award should submit a letter that documents their scholarly or research accomplishments. In addition, students should explain their need for this financial award and for what purpose it will be used. This letter should be co-signed by their faculty mentor or director of training after he or she has certified the accuracy of the student's presented information. Seven copies of this letter and of any supporting materials (e.g., a copy of the cited scholarly or research work) should be sent to: Hécaen and Meier Scholarships, American Psychological Foundation, 750 First Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20002-4242, Attn: Shana Hawkins, APF Program Coordinator. All applications must be received by June 1, 2005.

An Excel spreadsheet file that was prepared by the Division 40 Practice Advisory Committee can be downloaded from the ftp location. This is a list of website addresses for each of the Medicare carrier's homepages and the page that describes their policy on reimbursement for neuropsychological evaluations. Not all of this information is yet available on the web, but the attached file lists all the information that can currently be found.

Women in Clinical Neuropsychology TOP

Division 40 is committed to enhancing the representation of women in clinical and academic neuropsychology. We will soon be surveying the Division 40 membership to solicit suggestions about specific concerns that affect women in neuropsychology, as well as potential ways that the Division can facilitate efforts to address these issues. Anyone who is interested in participating in these efforts is invited to contact Paula K. Shear, Ph.D. at paula.shear@uc.edu or (513) 556-5577.

In addition, APA has recently made available on-line the publication, "Surviving and Thriving in Academia: A Guide for Women and Ethnic Minorities", which is available at: http://www.apa.org/pi/oema/surviving/.
