D40

Dear Applicant:

Clinical Neuropsychology is one of the fastest growing specialty areas in psychology today. Within the last decade, Neuropsychological research and practice has increased tremendously. The membership in APA's Division 40, Clinical Neuropsychology, has also significantly grown.  With over 4,100 members, our division is one of the largest in APA.  As an interest society for neuropsychology, the mission of the Division of Clinical Neuropsychology is to provide a scientific and professional forum for individuals interested in the study of the relationship between the brain and human behavior. As such, Division 40 has interest for colleagues in Neuropsychology, Clinical, Rehabilitation, School, Forensic, and Health Psychology.

The enterprises of Division 40 span the areas of science (e.g., presentations at the annual meeting of APA, awards for outstanding scientific contributions), practice (e.g. CPT billing codes, educational brochures for patients), education and training (e.g. neuropsychology graduate student organization), and specialty public interest groups (e.g., women, minorities, geriatrics, rural). Members of Division 40 receive Newsletter 40, a twice-yearly publication that provides important information about the practice of neuropsychology, advance notice of convention programs, and minutes of division business meetings. Division 40 does not currently publish or provide a journal.

Any psychologist who shares an interest in Clinical Neuropsychology and who is a Fellow, Member, Associate Member, or Affiliate of APA is encouraged to join Division 40.  In completing the enclosed membership application, note several important points:

  1. You must be a Fellow, Member, Associate Member, or Affiliate of APA before joining Division 40.
  2. Enclose a $34 dues payment (checks made payable to "APA Division 40") if you are a Fellow, Member, or Associate Member of APA.  Affiliate Membership in our Division is $5 annually.
  3. Please provide your APA Membership Number in the appropriate space on the application.  This identification number will greatly enhance the processing of your application.
  4. Membership is effective once your current APA membership status can be verified by APA. Membership will be for the current calendar year for all applications received prior to September 1 of this year.  After September 1, all memberships will be applied to next year.
  5. You will receive a confirmation letter regarding your membership status in Division 40 once your application is processed.
  6. Division 40 membership is NOT a credential for the practice of Clinical Neuropsychology.

Along with requests for applications, I am frequently asked to provide published information about various professional issues. Keep an eye on our ever-improving website (www.div40.org) as a source of information for our field.  You may wish to examine the links to other websites for additional information.

Thanks for your interest in Division 40 of APA.  Please contact me directly via phone or e-mail if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,
